LINDA KABOT - 2013 EXPLORATORY CAMPAIGN FOR SOUTHAMPTON TOWN SUPERVISOR

Dear Friends:

On November 5, 2013, Election Day, Southampton Town voters will have the opportunity to decide who should represent them in local government for the positions of Town Supervisor, Town Council, Town Trustee, Town Clerk, Highway Superintendent, Town Justice, and County Legislator.

Encouraged by the many enthusiastic responses that I have received to my recent letter sent to prior supporters to inquire if I should run for Town Supervisor in this year's election, I have decided to throw my hat into the ring. On March 15, I announced my intention to formally screen for the Republican nomination for the General Election to be held in November of this year.   Screenings are anticipated to be held in April followed by a Nominating Convention in May. Designating petitions are then carried door-to-door to collect signatures of registered voters during the months of June and early July so as to confirm candidates for ballot placement on the respective political party lines for the upcoming November 5 General Election.

I consider myself to be a Proven Leader who has accomplished great things for the people of Southampton Town.  I have been an independent voice for you.  I have stood tall when others looked down at their shoes during times of challenge and controversy.  I have faced the many obstacles and political shenanigans placed before me head-on, always keeping in mind my oath of office to serve you to the best of my ability.  In my prior races for public office, I was the top vote-getter in 2001 and 2005 as Town Councilwoman and in 2007 as Town Supervisor.  In 2011, when the Republican Party and Conservative Party did not run any candidate for Town Supervisor, I stepped up as a Write-In Candidate six weeks before Election Day to challenge Anna Throne-Holst and provide a choice to the voters.  It’s not an election without a challenger who is willing and able to tackle the tough issues facing our community. I garnered over 3900 Write-In Votes in 2011, which is over 36% -- without even having my name on the printed ballot while the incumbent Supervisor was listed on three political party lines (D, I, WF).  To have thousands of Write-In votes credited to my name is a historic first for New York State, and I am heartened by the support and encouragement of those voters from across the political spectrum.

The Town requires leadership, direction, and vision.  As a property owner, I can better represent the majority of taxpayers and voters in Southampton Town.  As a married mother of three children, I can provide values-based leadership with deep roots in the community.  Southampton Town is my hometown.  I am passionate about moving forward on initiatives to preserve our heritage, protect our environment, bolster our economy, improve the Town’s financial condition, and safeguard our quality of life.  A list of my accomplishments on behalf of the people of Southampton Town is outlined on my website www.lindakabot.com.

Sincerely,Linda Kabot
